The American Red Cross Launches a Volunteer Oriented Team Red Cross App

While this blog focuses on being prepared in all kinds of emergencies from natural disasters to man-made accidents, we haven't really focused on how individuals can actually help others when tragedy strikes.

To this end, we just learned about a great new app recently launched by the American Red Cross that enables individuals to register to volunteer, receive digital notices about Red Cross disaster volunteer opportunities in their home area and get information on basic volunteer tasks.

After downloading the free Team Red Cross App designed for iPhone and Android smart phones and tablets, interested do-gooders can create an account and thereafter learn about different volunteer opportunities-whether handing out supplies to those in need to stocking warehouse shelves with emergency supplies.  Individuals will be notified via the app should a volunteer opportunity arise based on location.  Individuals can then accept or decline the opportunity.

The app also features a way for people to share volunteer opportunity notifications with their social network, donate funds, register to donate blood and get a quick orientation right on their mobile device about what the volunteer opportunities entail.  In addition, you can make a game out of volunteering by earning digital "badges" through accepting a volunteer opportunity, getting friends to volunteer or simply sharing the app with acquaintances.

The Red Cross asks that people download the app as soon as possible so all are ready to act and volunteer quickly should an emergency arise.
